How to Set Up a Google Business Profile Without a Physical Address

Can You Have a Google Business Profile Without an Office?

Yes. Google allows businesses that serve customers without a storefront, such as agencies, freelancers, plumbers, and consultants, to create a Google Business Profile as a service-area business. You do not need a shopfront, but you do need to follow a few rules, or the profile can be suspended.

Say No to "Add a Location Customers Can Visit"

During setup, Google asks whether customers can visit your location. If you have no office or storefront, choose No. Entering a home address, a virtual office, or a co-working desk as a public storefront is one of the most common reasons profiles get suspended.

Choose a Realistic Service Area

Google then asks where you serve customers. List the cities and regions where you genuinely work, not every country you would like clients from. A long list of distant places looks like spam and can trigger extra review. You can add areas later once the profile is verified and stable.

Pick a Specific Category

Choose the category that describes your main service, for example "Internet Marketing Service" or "Marketing Agency". Specific categories help Google understand what you do. You can add secondary categories for other services.

Keep Your Name, Phone, and Website Consistent

Use your real business name, with no keywords added. Use the same phone number and website that appear on your site and your other directory listings. Consistency across these details helps Google trust that the business is real.

Write an Honest Description

The description allows up to 750 characters. Explain what you do, who you serve, and where you are based. Do not add links, phone numbers, or claims such as "best" or "number one", because Google's policies do not allow them.

Prepare for Google Business Profile Video Verification

Service-area businesses are often asked to verify by video. Google's exact prompts vary, so read the on-screen instructions carefully. In general, plan to show your workspace or equipment, evidence that you operate the business such as your website, invoices, or registration, and that you can access the profile you are verifying. Record in one continuous take, keep the footage clear, and do not edit it.

Do Not Use a Fake Storefront Photo

If the profile asks for a storefront photo and you have no storefront, skip it. Uploading an image of a building that is not yours can be treated as misrepresentation. Use your logo, a branded cover image, and real photos of your team or work instead.

What to Expect From Rankings

Local results favor businesses that are physically close to the searcher, so a service-area profile is unlikely to win the Map Pack in a city where you have no address. It still gives you a branded search result, a place to collect reviews, and a trusted identity signal. Treat it as part of building your overall online authority, not as a shortcut.
